What has been your most memorable cultural experience so far?
Traveling to places I once only dreamt of has been a deep joy. During my school years, I read about many historic and cultural places. Now, seeing them in reality feels like a dream come true. Using English to connect with different people and share stories has opened many doors for me. And when I share tales from my homeland with my students, their eager faces show a genuine interest in my culture, making every teaching moment precious.
What has been your favorite part about living in the US?
The simplicity of life in the US has resonated deeply with me. It has provided me the environment to truly evolve as an independent adult. The freedom to make choices, whether it's about what I eat, where I go, or what I purchase, gives me a sense of autonomy that I cherish. This journey of self-discovery and personal growth has been one of the most enriching aspects of my stay.
What has been the most challenging?
For me, every situation is a lesson waiting to be learned. Instead of seeing challenges, I see opportunities for growth. My role often requires me to be in meetings and collaborate with various teachers. Enhancing my communication, ensuring everyone's views are acknowledged and respected, is something I work on diligently. It's this effort that makes our teamwork more harmonious and fruitful.
Do you have any tips for your fellow J-1 teachers?
Remember to be kind to yourself. This journey, while exhilarating, can also be exhausting. It's essential to rest, rejuvenate, and take moments to savor the everyday pleasures of life. Embrace each day, learn from every experience, and most importantly, enjoy the ride!
