Most memorable cultural experience so far:
I have so many wonderful experiences on my American adventure so far... Colorado has many beautiful mountain vistas, crystal clear alpine lakes, majestic waterfalls and rugged wilderness. Yet, if I had to only choose one, it would be hiking in the Rocky Mountain National Park with my mate, and co-worker, Steven. We saw a bald eagle, some elk and big horned sheep, which was incredible. I feel so lucky to live and work in such an amazing part of the world.
Favorite part about living in the US:
I think overall, my favorite part about living in the US is the people. I've only had great interactions with the people that I have met since I've been here. Very friendly, engaging and interesting to talk to. Whether it's a taxi driver, local barmaid or colleagues, it's been very pleasurable thus far.
Biggest challenge:
Nothing really... Well, maybe people trying to understand my broad, northern English accent haha.
Tips for fellow J-1 Teachers:
Embrace your time in this beautiful country. Travel as much as you can afford, make local friends through sports societies, go to concerts, hang out in the restaurants and bars and, go to see shows in the city. This country has so much to offer in many different ways so, I say, just enjoy it!
Anything else you would like to highlight or share about your US experience so far:
Visit Las Vegas. Even just once. As a foreigner, you have to see how crazy that place is. I'd recommend going for 2 nights maximum and just walk around, take in the atmosphere and read about the unique history of the place.
