What has been your most memorable cultural experience so far?
There are many experiences that I value so much. Teaching here in the USA is one of a kind, I have the opportunities and privileges to attend prestigious seminars and training that I can use and apply inside the classroom.. I am also thankful to the community where I am teaching, people here are very thoughtful, helpful and very welcoming. They let us learn their culture by teaching us their native language, giving us their favorite and traditional foods, and bringing us to their home and welcoming us like their own family.
What has been your favorite part about living in the US?
Living in the USA is always a dream of everybody, me and my family are enjoying it here. Having my daughter with me here is such a big blessing to me.
What has been the most challenging?
Challenges help us grow and improve our skills and ability. In our field, the teaching and learning process is the thing that we always want to do our best, that is why we make ways to improve it. Honestly, during the first month of my first semester last school year, I had a challenge on how I will get the full attention of my students, but then through the help of hard work and effort, advice and support of my colleagues, seminars, and training that my school district provided, I was able to come up with numerous approach and strategies how will I get their interest and help them boost their self-confidence.
Do you have tips for your fellow J-1 teachers?
Always take care of your body and mental health, your peace of mind, and you as an individual. If you are in the city, go, explore and enjoy during your free time. If you are in the village, enjoy the calmness and the peaceful surroundings. Believe and respect yourself. Dream big and make a move!
